Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA or Stroke)
Second Skin prescribes a comprehensive range of dynamic upper limb splints and lower limb splints for adults and children who have had brain injuries.
Each splint targets particular medical, therapy, client and family goals. Splints can be prescribed for clients with functional and non-functional upper limbs.
Second Skin upper limb splints are commonly prescribed to assist with:
- Management of:
- Increased tone
- Shoulder pain
- Maintenance of:
- Posture
- Range of motion
- Skin integrity
- Improving upper limb awareness
- Oedema (swelling) control
- Comfort
Where there is some return of upper limb movement or function, dynamic splints may be prescribed to target specific functional skills such as self-care or arm and hand use as an assist or helper. Second Skin splints are designed to improve upper limb posture, and impact positively on balance and stability when walking.
Dynamic Foot Splints are often prescribed for this client group to impact positively on:
- Lower limb tonal management
- Ankle, and toe posture and awareness in sit to stand transfers and walking
- Maintaining skin integrity and comfort in footwear
Dynamic Foot Splints can be prescribed to be worn with an existing ankle foot orthosis (AFO) or orthotic device where appropriate.
Do not hesitate to contact us to discuss our splints.
